The National Capital 20 Miler is known for offering participants highly fashionable hoodies (and sometimes hats) as well as a wide array of awards.
Note: Neither the Janet Braunstein 5 Miler nor the National Capital 20 Miler award participant medals.
Race Awards
Runners must be present during the awards ceremonies to receive their awards. Individual runners are only eligible for one award. The race directors reserve the right to alter the awards policy and the award amounts prior to race day.

- 1st Place: $15
- 2nd Place: $10
- 3rd Place: $5
National Capital 20 Miler Awards
Overall Male and Female
Awards are given for 1st ($15), 2nd ($10), and 3rd ($5) place finishers in each of the following categories:
- 1st Place: $150
- 2nd Place: $75
- 3rd Place: $50
- $50
Awards are given for 1st ($15), 2nd ($10), and 3rd ($5) place finishers in each of the following categories:
- 19 and under
- 20–29
- 30–39
- 40–49
- 50–59
- 60–69
- 70 and over
Hoodies of Years Past
A Note about the Hoodies
The race directors usually unveil each year’s hoodie in close proximation to race day, and they make every effort to ensure that all registrants will receive one.
However, since the number of available hoodies is based on the amount of registered runners for each year’s event, last-minute registrants may not be guaranteed a hoodie.
We encourage all participants to register early.
In addition, runners should know that they can switch from the 20 Miler to the 5 Miler.
